Adapting and Optimizing Problem Adaptation Therapy (PATH) for People With Mild-Moderate Dementia and Depression

ABSTRACTObjective To adapt and optimize problem adaptation therapy for depression in dementia by grounding it the lives of people with dementia, caregivers clinicians. Methods A person-centered qualitative approach was taken to elicit unique cognitive, psychological social needs relevant intervention. two-stage design used: first involved interviews focus groups identify priorities concerns surrounding second trialling adapted Participants Ten nine participated individual interviews, 35 healthcare practitioners clinical academics experience working groups. Results The findings highlight importance addressing key themes that typified among including: a profound sense isolation role loss, feeling being both burden poorly understood, polarized thinking, interpersonal tensions, diverging views carers about their capabilities, changeability cognitive ability mood. These were used inform intervention manual, ensuring its content delivery addressed those who support them. Conclusion Implications PATH included on facilitating open communication, supporting continuation valued roles, improving confidence.
